Niecy Nash-Bates A new project is in the works – something “very dark” and starring opposite an unexpected co-star: Travis Kelce.
Nash Bates was the first to reveal Kelce joins Ryan Murphy’s upcoming new project, weirdBack in May, she was more than happy to share some praise when she spoke with ET’s Deidre Behar Hit the carpet at the 2024 BET Awards Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Nash Baez – Joined are Wife Jessica Bates Speaking at Sunday’s star-studded awards ceremony – explained the news series, “I’ve never played a character like this. It’s very dark and I’m excited for people to see it.”
“There might be some cameos,” Nash-Bates added. “I won’t name names. But now is a good time.”
When it came to Kelce, however, Nash-Bates said he held his own on set, especially since this was actually his first dramatic role.
“You know what, I was pleasantly surprised,” Nash-Bates said. “He’s doing a really good job.”
Nash-Bates said she had been rehearsing her lines and coaching Kelce to the best of her ability, describing their typical rehearsals as “we sit together and eat and read the words off the page.”
As for whether she peppered him with a series of questions about his famous girlfriend Taylor Swift, Nash-Bates played coy, telling ET, “Well, now I won’t ask and I won’t tell! Let’s do that. Let me put it this way.
A source told the Economic Times Travis Kelce is taking on a number of roles in May as he enters show business in his first TV series role… Details of Travis’ character are still being kept under wraps, However, this will be a cameo role and his presence will be felt throughout the series.
The source added, “Travis is excited to work on this skill and show a different side of himself off the court. There will be more projects like this to come.”
As for her attending this year’s BET Awards with her wife, Nash-Bates revealed that they will make history by appearing at the ceremony.
“Jess is the first married same-sex couple to attend the BET Awards,” explained Nash-Bates, who tied the knot with the singer-songwriter in August 2020.
For the Emmy Award-winning actress, making history alongside her wife on such an iconic show is a true treat in itself.
“It’s about the culture, I don’t want to go somewhere else with other people,” Nash-Bates said with a laugh.
