In the summer of 2021, Hayoung Roh auditioned for Knick City Dancers on a whim and made the cut. After one year with the team, she moved on to the Brooklyn Dancers, the official dance team of the Brooklyn Nets. She is now in her second season of Dancing with Brooklyn Girls and her first as co-captain.
Roh Moo-hyun’s dancing exudes sincerity and passion, whether on stage or on the court. She’s tried a variety of jobs, from commercial work abroad (“Destiny,” a resident show at MGM Cotai Resorts in Macau), to a backup dancer for Kylie Minogue, to New York City with Jesse Ka Chen’s J CHEN PROJECT danced with Chen Naini Dance Company. Her experience in Brooklyn has been enriching in new ways: “It’s been such a blessing to be a part of the environment that our coaches have built,” she said. “From the moment I auditioned, I knew I was in good hands.”

“As co-captain of the Brooklyn Women’s Team, I strive to be both graceful and accountable. Building one-on-one relationships with the dancers is so important in this role. I’m even participating in leadership coaching courses in order to always put your best foot forward and help lead this amazing group of women.

“Once I reached the age where my body was no longer physically active, I loved diving into dance therapy. My brother has Autism Spectrum Disorder and I saw firsthand his innate athletic ability. We went to see him together At a BTS concert, the music filled his body – his smile in those moments was unreal. I’ve seen how powerful music and dance can be, whether a person is neurodivergent or neurotypical, and I really want to. One day explore this to help different communities.

“Pursuing a BFA in Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts challenged the way I approached dance. In addition to multiple dance genres, the program offered courses in anatomy and music theory that complemented my dance education and helped me become a well-rounded artist. It set me up for success.
