We can’t believe Dancing with the Stars Season 32 is over. We probably say this every year, but we’re pretty sure this has been one of the most dramatic seasons yet, complete with on-stage injuries, costume malfunctions, controversial eliminations (and shocking non-eliminations); the list goes on. Lift.
But after all, we made it to the finals with five amazing finalists. In the finals, each remaining pair of dancers will be asked to dance twice – once in the redemption round, where they will perform the style they had been struggling with earlier in the season, and then, of course, in the freestyle round middle. And we are Dance soul I’m a big fan of freestyle. After all, you never know what might happen when you give the professionals free rein.
If you somehow missed last night’s finale, here are all the best dances, plus the couple who won the first-ever Ryan Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev
Last night’s performance gave Charity a chance to get back to her cheerleading roots, and we have to say, “Yes, Queen!” Charity’s freestyle, choreographed by her partner Artem, was packed with upbeat content and brought the ballroom to life Here comes some of the most dizzying (and death-defying) action we’ve ever seen.
But most importantly, her freestyle gave Charity the chance to look exactly her style. She was confident in a whole new way last night. The judges gave the performance three 10s, out of 30, for a total of 30 points.
Jason Mraz and Daniela Karagach
We’ve never seen dancing queen Daniella Karagach, no It works great when choreographing freestyle moves. Last night’s freestyle with Jason Mraz was no exception. This is pure Jason – fun, high energy, and just the right amount of classic weirdness.
Jason did just enough to keep up with Daniella’s dance. He focused all his energy and attention into the ballroom for the finale night, nailing every step — and there were some challenging ones. The judges gave Jason and Daniela three 10s out of 30.
Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov
We are very excited to see professional Pasha Pashkov’s first freestyle. After all, this is the first time our favorite has made it to the finals. It’s safe to say that Pasha’s freestyle for his costar Ariana Madix exceeded all of our expectations.
Ariana and Pasha brought new meaning to the word “intense” with their improvisational performance, their mashup of hip-hop dance numbers and girl-power anthems. Ariana feels comfortable, confident, and in control of her movements and ballroom. The judges gave the pair three 10s, for a total of 30 points.
Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber
If there was a “DWTS” advancement award (and, hey, since we say so, there probably should be…), it would have to go to one person this season: Alyson Hannigan. We’ve seen the star make so much progress in the first week of the show, and we’re super excited to see her dance in the finale.
Professional Sasha Farber choreographed the show to all of Alison’s newfound strengths, giving her a chance to show off some serious skills in ballroom and Latin dancing. All we can say is that it was a truly mesmerizing performance.
The judges gave Alison and Sasha two 9s and a 10, for a total of 28 points (out of 30).
Xochitl Gomez and Valentin Chmerkovsky
We’ve seen Xochitl Gomez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy perform some very interesting dances this season. But during last night’s performance, the dance duo brought strength. We were prepared for the ballroom to catch fire during the freestyle.
As usual, Xochitl’s performance was full of passion and followed the routine perfectly. Even dancing with a group of professional dancers, she stood out – no mean feat. The judges gave Xochitl and Val three 10’s out of 30 points.
So, after the dance, who takes home the first Ryan Goodman Mirrorball Trophy? Your Season 32 winner is…
…Xochit Gomez and Valentin Chmerkovsky!
We are extremely excited for Xochitl and Val. Talk about a multiverse of mirror ball madness!
