Introduction: Dr. Iquail Shaheed is a Philadelphia artist, activist, and Executive Artistic Director of DANCE IQUAIL! Through it, he creates new work and programming that centers Blackness, justice, and joy.
Dr. Shahid has worked with internationally renowned companies such as Philadanco, Compagnie Thor (Brussels), Sean Curran Company, Ronald K Brown/Evidence and Fred Benjamin Dance Company.
As an educator, Iquier taught at the Ailey School and NAISDA Dance Academy in Australia and retained the Horton technique.
He received his BFA in ballet performance from the University of the Arts and his MFA in choreography from Purchase College. Dr. Shahid is also the first Black male to receive a Doctor of Philosophy in Dance from Texas Woman’s University.
