It’s lights, camera and action for week seven of this season of So You Think You Can Dance. Last week, two more dancers were sent home, narrowing our top 8 down to our top 6, and it’s safe to say the competition is indeed heating up.
This week, we see the top 6 dancers take on a brand new challenge: movies. To bring it to the screen, they were joined by two of our favorite choreographers. So if you didn’t watch last night’s episode, here’s everything you missed. And…action!
For a movie night challenge, dancers teamed up with two dancers legendary The film’s choreographers: Chris Scott and Jamaal Sims, and were split into two groups to start. The first group is teamed with Chris Scott and includes Easton Maliatiti, Madison Rouge Alvarado and Jaylin Sanders. The second group collaborates with Jamal Sims and includes Mariyah Hawkins, Anthony Curley and Dakayla Wilson. That’s right, our resident acting troupe members Anthony and D’Akyla have the opportunity to work together again.
The top six can start working on their mini-movies. Chris’s team started in the highlands number, set to the song “When the Sun Goes Down”. ICYMI Chris is the choreographer of this show in the highlands movie, so the pressure is naturally real for this team.
The second group teamed up with Jamal and began their work. free– Daily inspiration. Turning point? their movie will be free meet FrankensteinAnthony plays the monster/person of Maria and Dacela.
Soon after, the dancers swapped the dance studio for a film studio. They’re joined by the judges, who capture all the extra exclusive behind-the-scenes content, including which dancers are slaying and which are struggling. Especially for Jaylin, her life seems to be even more difficult. “He just doesn’t understand his body yet,” Allison Holker said.
After the scene quieted down, it was time to listen to the judges’ speeches. First, they watched Chris’ team on the big screen. Although Jaylin tried his best to hold his own, he seemed to be lagging behind compared to the other two dancers. Madison performed well, and the judges spoke highly of her acting skills and character performance.
Next up is Team Jamal’s film. The judges were particularly impressed with Anthony, who is undoubtedly the star of the show. But after watching their performance, Maria was disappointed with her own performance. “I’m very proud of the work I did, but I guess I was a little discouraged by the results because it felt so different than it looked,” she said.
Finally, it was time for the results. The judges selected three dancers who were deemed safe, while the other three were at risk of being sent home. After careful consideration, Jaylin, Mariyah and Dakayla are all at risk of elimination. But luckily, only one of the three dancers was sent home this week.
While Jaylin and Mariyah’s sudden death solos were a little subtle, Dakayla went big and impressed the judges. Eventually, she and Maria were both chosen to dance for another week, and Jaelyn was sent home. “There’s a lot of things about me that people don’t know. This is just the beginning,” he said.
This is how the seventh week ends.
