As Rehearsal Director, you are responsible for providing the company with daily modern dance training, preparing and conducting rehearsals, assisting with choreography, organizing guest teachers and shaping the internal flow and external perception of dance in Central Germany.

This is Us: Dance at the Stadttheater Giessen and its ensembles see themselves as a platform for multiple contemporary stage languages, placing the body at the center of their work. crossing traditional genre boundaries again and again. Artistic Director Constantin Hochkeppel’s productions, in particular, see themselves as well-crafted theater productions dedicated to current themes using the interdisciplinary means of physical theatre. Together with international guest choreographers, the dance company develops around four world premieres each season. Additionally, collaborations with other institutions allow dancers the freedom to develop their own work. The international company consists of nine dancers aged between 25 and 50, whose individual artistic personalities shape the aesthetic and content characteristics of all works.
– Regular morning modern dance training and pre-performance warm-up
– Organization of guest trainers (budget, contact, support)
– Consultation with the choreographer: preparation, management and follow-up of rehearsals, choreographic assistance
– Management of revival rehearsals (Wiederaufnahmeproben), realization of possible concepts and practical presentations (format of presentations for the audience)
– Evening direction
– Conceive and organize workshops for external dance enthusiasts (together with the director)
– Develop own ideas for the department and work with management to implement them
– Teaching and facilitation skills
– Long-term experience in conceiving contemporary dance courses for professional dancers (in the context of professional dance companies)
– Many years of experience as a contemporary dancer (and possibly physical theater performer), preferably at a municipal theater
– Experience as a rehearsal director, preferably at a municipal theater
– Good network with German and European dancers and choreographers
– Experience working in teams and meeting the needs of different parties (groups, management, etc.)
– Basic knowledge of NV Bühne (SR Solo)
– Basic knowledge of German and international dance and physical theater scenes
– Eager to realize the dance vision at the Stadtheater Giessen together with the department management
– Desire to have a voice and participate in the development and implementation of departmental and theater processes
– German language skills
– Charm, uniqueness, courage and talent
– Part-time contract based on NV Bühne (SR Solo) for the remainder of the 24/25 season (entry/handover: from September 23, 2024, start of employment: January 10, 2024)
– After cooperation evaluation in spring 2025: option to extend regular NV Bühne contract from season 25/26 onwards

Interview process: Selected applicants will be invited to attend an online meeting (June 2024). Successful applicants will then be invited to attend an on-site meeting (8. – 12.7.24). The meeting will include a trial lesson with the orchestra and an interview with the artistic director.
