Scooter Braun calls it a career.
a very controversial One might say, career.
On Monday, the longtime manager who rose to fame working with stalwarts like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande confirmed that he will be leaving the music industry after 23 years retire.
“I’ve been lucky enough to live a ‘Forrest Gump’ life while witnessing and participating in the journeys of some of the world’s most extraordinary talents.
“I kept pinching myself and asking, ‘How did I get here?’ After 23 years, that chapter as a music manager has ended.
“It’s a weird feeling because I’ve thought I’d wanted this for a while but I was really scared to answer the question ‘Who would I be without them?’ I was really only 19 when I started . So my entire adult life, I’ve been an artist manager on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“I’ve loved it for 20 years. It’s all I’ve ever known.
Last year, Braun was fired by Grande and Demi Lovato amid reports that he was basically a giant asshole.
We’re sure Taylor Swift can echo this sentiment.
Back in 2018, Braun’s company acquired the rights to Swift’s first six albums … prompting Taylor to completely rebuke Braun for trying to control her career.
Braun eventually sold Swift’s records for hundreds of millions of dollars, and Swift went on to record her own record-breaking versions of those albums and songs.
Braun continued in his social media message, citing the children he shares with ex-wife Yael Cohen:
“As my kids got older and my personal life took a hit, I started to realize that my kids were three superstars that I didn’t want to lose.
“The sacrifices I was once willing to make no longer make sense. It’s time to take on a new role… [I must now become] First a father, second a CEO, and finally no longer a manager.
Braun explained that he had been considering exiting management for “the last two years,” though the idea started to feel more real in the summer of 2023 — because “one of my biggest clients and friends told me they wanted to spread their wings.” And leave in a new direction.
We assume this is a reference to Bieber.
In his retirement statement, Braun continued:
“You see, life doesn’t give you your plan, it gives you God’s plan. God has been pushing me in this direction for some time.
“I have nothing but love for the people I have worked with over the years and I will always be in their shoes, both directly and from a distance, to advise and support them as we enter into different working relationships.
“Every client I’ve had the pleasure of working with has changed my life, and I know many of them are just starting to see the success they deserve. I’m rooting for each and every one of them.
The cocky executive concluded:
I never foresaw how this chapter would end, hell, I never even saw it happening. But it did. I will cherish every moment of it. I made my plans…but it turns out I prefer God’s plans Cheers! “
