Neil Percival Young Known as the “Godfather of Grunge,” grunge wasn’t the only genre influenced by him. I have five brothers. They all listened Neil Young. One of them played “The Needle and The Damage Done” numerous times on his acoustic Ovation guitar. As I was writing this, my eldest brother called and said, “You went Neil Young? You know I love him!
The openers were New York’s Billy Priest and Stop Shopping (not a typo). Pastor Billy, played by William Tallon, is the pastor of the “Stop Shopping Church” who believes that consumerism will end humanity. They engage in public campaigns that openly target businesses. I found Pastor Billy’s approach annoying and difficult to understand. Used car salesman meets evangelical preacher. The choir sounds lovely, full of soulful gospel sounds. If you are interested, check out a book about him such as: “What Would Jesus Buy? Pastor Bill’s Wonderful Prayer in the Face of Store Disaster” or “What Would I Do If Pastor Billy Was in My Store”.
The audience was 100% sold out Neil Young. It rained during the show and our seats were on the right side of the floor. The venue has a huge tent roof but no walls. Our seats were wet. I just wiped ours off with my sweatshirt sleeve because I didn’t like it. Soon after, staff brought out towels to dry the seats. The whole show hung over us, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the show.
Neil Young Tonight’s version of Crazy Horse takes the stage: bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and guitarist Willie Nelson’s son Micah. The show kicked off with “Cortez the Killer” Zuma and performed a direct rendition of one of his famous hits, “Cinnamon Girl” Everyone knows there’s nowhere to go. after the gold rushThe song “When You Dance You Can Really Love” is a gift to the die-hard fans. It hasn’t been played live for five years.
Next up is a title dropped from his recently released album Fuckin’ Up. The singer addressed the crowd, recalling the loss of his friend, record producer David Briggs, in the ’90s. “Some of you had friends who were with you but are no longer here.” This is a continuation of “Dispersion (Let’s Think About Life),” excerpted from broken arrow. Neil Young Tell the audience he wrote a song about a car on California’s Pacific Coast Highway and present it Zuma‘s “Bar Stool Blues.”
Driving into another cutoff Zuma“Danger Bird”, Neil Unsatisfied with the sound of his guitar and fumbled around a bit. He eventually called a staff member and instructed them to “tweak this for me.” He explained: “We rehearsed it over and over again, but it happened. Thank you for putting up with us. I was going to tune it myself to save time, but these guys deserved to hear it being tuned correctly. And then we got ” a tuned version of “Danger Bird,” followed by another hit song, “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.” Tonight is night For “roll another number (for roads) and mirror ball Because “I am the ocean”.
return to Everyone knows there’s nowhere to go For “riverside”. Neil Addressing the crowd, “How’s everyone doing?” The place was buzzing. The fans were on their feet throughout. I thought that was ironic because when I saw him at the Hartford Civic Center in 1991, everyone was yelling at me to sit down. “Pink Finger” is closed rust never sleep and “Love and only love.” ragged glory Next is the title song “Comes a Time”.
At this point the orchestra takes a break and we get Neil Solo with just his voice, guitar and harmonica hanging around his neck harvest’“Heart of Gold”. The whole place was singing word for word. “Human Highway” When coming Followed by. The album ends with perhaps his most famous song, “Hey Hey My My (Into the Black).” Neal waved as he walked off the stage, “Thank you for being here, thank you so much.” But Bridgeport was about to get another rare gift from the icon. The band returned and played just one song as an encore, but it was a song they hadn’t played live in six years, Broken Arrow’The “big era”.
Neil Young and “Crazy Horse” sounds great. Neil He looks and ages, but his voice and musicianship are outstanding. There’s no flashy footwork or pyrotechnics in this show. Just a giant banner with the Crazy Horse logo behind it and minimal stage lights. The big screen didn’t light up at all, it was pitch black.
During the performance, the kid next to me pulled out a small notebook and pencil. I asked him if he was a writer and he said no, he was an artist. He made some quick sketches. I’m really impressed with how well they captured these moments even in the worst lighting. It’s interesting that the writer and artist ended up coming together and being inspired Neil Young 2024.
