Tina Firefly very generously took some time to have this detailed and fascinating conversation with AMP.
AMP: The band came together before the coronavirus outbreak. Do you think the epidemic has a positive or negative effect on the band’s growth?
Tina: This is definitely a positive. As we find ourselves in a strange period of lull, we need time to make changes to our lineup. While going through this is painful, especially during COVID-19, it has inadvertently helped us become more clear and goal-oriented.
AMP: How would you describe the band’s intrinsic energy?
Tina: crazy! When you have the right musicians, you can create magical moments. We do make that magic come out, but we always seem to be on the crazy side of that magic because most musicians tend to stray a little bit from their rock style.
AMP: What do you think sets the band apart?
Tina: Interesting question. For us, there is a huge gap between our inspirations. The four of us are inspired by completely different genres of music. In my opinion, this usually kills a project, but for us it actually enhanced our sound. what makes beautiful skull What is so unique is that we are all so diverse.
AMP: Speaking of inspirations, who is in the band?
Tina: Our shared band and musicians were Alice In Chains and Jerry Cantrell. Our bassist, Jason, was a country musician before joining the band. Most of mine are heroines from the 90s, like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. They are like superheroes to me. The overlapping central interest of the entire band is the hard rock scene of the 90s to 2000s. We were both passionate about the nu-metal movement, especially bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit.
AMP: You are single control The EP “Letter to a Narcissist” is full of drama. Can you tell us about the track?
Tina: It’s actually based on the ex-boyfriend of one of my best friends. I won’t name names! (laugh). Some of my favorite feedback about this song is when people ask me “Is this about me?” You know you’re doing something lyrically right when people ask who the song is about. In fact, it taps into the fact that we all have toxic people in our lives, and most of us don’t immediately realize it.
This is because some of these toxic entities are narcissists and it is difficult to catch them. They seem to be part of your team and seem to have good intentions, but sooner or later you see the signs and are able to put the puzzle pieces together. The true meaning of this song is that one should draw a healthy emotional boundary around oneself, and that maybe some of the deadliest snakes are already in your inner circle.
AMP: What do you hope your fans take away from your music?
Tina: I want them to feel like, “Where the hell did they go?” That’s my favorite reaction. I want them to know we’re here and ready to get their attention. I want them to be blown away and want more.
AMP: You are managed by the famous Saliva drummer Paul Crosby. How did that happen?
Tina: We were looking for professional management a few years ago and looked at multiple sources. The main goal is to find people who believe in what we are doing. We contacted Paul based on recommendations from other bands in the area. No one had anything bad to say about him. We reached out to him to see if he would be interested, and luckily, he liked what he heard. Paul was definitely a huge factor in our musical growth.
AMP: How excited are you about working with WormholeDeath Records?
Tina: OMG! There is no explanation. On our wish list was to join a record label that believed in us completely. Everyone keeps saying “you need a cool label deal” when really you need a good distribution deal with a company that loves the music they support, rather than just looking at the show from a numbers perspective. So we were excited when WormholeDeath reached out to us.
Here we were trying to get a label and they saw our “Kraken” video and Max, one of their A&R reps, sent me a direct message on Instagram. Do you know how many messages we receive on social media are complete scams! That’s exactly what the initial news sounds like. I’m waiting for the part where he asks us for some promotional advance money. That part never came up, and luckily he was indeed the wormhole death representative. Now that we’re here, I’m glad I didn’t delete that message.
AMP: How do you feel about your new EP? controlhas the musical style evolved at all from your previous material?
Tina: To us, this is the pinnacle of an evolved musical style. We didn’t finalize the lineup until recently. Strangely enough, when the stars align, everything falls into place. That’s what happened when we found drummer Huw. Everyone who listens to the new material comments on how much we’ve grown. this is next level beautiful skull.
AMP: What’s next for the band?
Tina: World domination of course! We have a show at the Whiskey House on May 24th, a festival in June and a tour in July and August. A lot of interesting things are coming. Also, by the end of the year, we will be focusing on the next set of songs.
