“Did you realize that??”
The Flaming Lips were formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City. In 1999, they released the album soft announcement, This brought them new success. Then, in 2002, they followed up Jimei fights the pink robot, This is their biggest album to date. Pitchfork called it one of the top 5 albums of the year, Stereogum called it one of the best albums of the decade, and they won a Grammy. The best song on the album is “Do You Realize??” So in this episode, I talk to Wayne Coyne and Steven Droz about the original idea for the song. You’ll hear the first demo Wayne recorded for the song, as well as the demos he and Steven later made on the way to the final version with producer Dave Friedman.
