“stay”
Lizzy McAlpine released her first album in 2020 and her second album in 2022. One of her songs, “Ceilings,” went viral on TikTok and has been played more than 500 million times. So you might be thinking that now that you’ve had so much success, you’d want to keep working in the way that’s always worked. But when Lizzy was making her third album, elder, nearly a year into the recording process, she dropped the whole thing. She brought in a new band and started over in a completely different way. I talked to her about the song “Staying” from her new album. You’ll hear her original voice memos, as well as the first version she made in the studio and how she actually realized it after reimagining it.
